THESEUS SME 2009
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) is launching the second phase of the THESEUS research program with the “THESEUS SME 2009” technology competition. THESEUS SME (small and midsize enterprises) is conducted in close cooperation with the THESEUS consortium that formed during the first development phase of the THESEUS research program (Phase I) in mid-2007. Initial intermediate results from Phase I, which are based on development and trial of basic technologies and application scenarios, form the starting point for THESEUS SME. Support is provided to application-oriented projects from research and development (R&D) within small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) that relate to the objectives of the THESEUS program.
The objectives of THESEUS SME are:
- Opening up the program for greater participation by small and midsize enterprises
- Earlier transfer of scientific knowledge within SME industries
- Greater participation of small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) in the results of THESEUS
- Expansion of the THESEUS research program through the development and trial of innovative technologies for new products and processes. New services and business models are one focus.
- Strengthening of the impact and sustainability of the THESEUS research program
The target group for the competition is companies who would like to conduct their R&D projects individually or in a group with research partners or other SMEs. Independent small and midsize enterprises (i.e., with ownership by other companies of no more than 25%) with up to 1,000 employees may apply. The companies whose project suggestions are selected get the chance to implement their project ideas in collaboration with the companies and research institutes of the THESEUS consortium. For this purpose, intermediate results from Phase I of the THESEUS research program are being made available through THESEUS, so that participating companies can use these as a basis for developing and testing innovative technologies for new products and processes, as well as new service and business models.
