THESEUS media brunch informs about the research program’s interim result

THESEUS media brunch

In the context of a media brunch on the first day of the CeBIT 2010, THESEUS presented the research program’s latest exemplary applications at the fairground’s Convention Center in Hannover. About twenty journalists attended the event and took the opportunity to thoroughly discuss the current technological developments.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Andreas Goerdeler of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology underscored the research program’s relevance and pointed out that with EMMA and USDL, THESEUS has already generated two important technical standards.

Dr. Orestis Terzidis, Vice President SAP Research Karlsruhe and head of the THESEUS application scenario TEXO, traced the development of the Internet. “The history of the Internet”, said Terzidis, “is a history of constant change. In the beginning, discussions revolved around the exchange of scientific documents at CERN, then the New Economy hype barged in, and after that the Web 2.0. Technologies developed in the context of THESEUS keep on fostering the Internet’s evolution and establish platforms for the Internet of Services.”

Thomas Niessen, head of the THESEUS Program Office, opened the Q&A session. He introduced the attendant THESEUS experts, including Prof. Dr. Lutz Heuser, SAP Research, as well as Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Grallert of the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute, and gave a brief overview of the existing exemplary applications.

Thereafter, the journalists had the opportunity to actively inform themselves about the THESEUS program’s latest developments by interviewing the experts and testing the seven available exemplary applications out of ALEXANDRIA, CONTENTUS, PROCESSUS, MEDICO, and TEXO. Of particular interest was the TEXO Service Marketplace 3.0, which was presented by Gerhard Held of the application scenario TEXO. But also the other exemplary applications triggered a vivid interchange of ideas on the economic and scientific potentials of the THESEUS research program.
