Universität Fridericiana zu Karlsruhe (TH), this is the complete honorary title of Universität Karlsruhe. It is one of three top universities that succeeded in the first round of the Excellence Initiative of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German states. Roundabout 19,000 students at eleven faculties in more than 120 institutes of the university are provided with practice- and future-oriented education. The Fridericiana offers a wide spectrum of natural and engineering sciences and, in addition, economic sciences, humanities, and social sciences as well as architecture. The faculty of information science founded in 1972 is of particular significance. It was the first of its type in Germany.


Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the merger of Universität Karlsruhe and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. Both partners are joining their forces in the KIT in order to achieve an unprecedented quality of cooperation. With roundabout 8000 employees and an annual budget of about 700 million Euros, KIT has the potential of becoming a leading scientific institution in selected disciplines in the world.
