The range of course offerings at TUM (Technische Universität München) is unique throughout Europe and includes natural sciences, technology, medicine, and life sciences. In addition to twelve departments, the university also has central institutes and research platforms where interdisciplinary competences for promising research projects are bundled. The culture at the university is cosmopolitan and hospitable. Twenty percent of the students hail from abroad. The German Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) was opened in Singapore as a subsidiary of TUM. Through the support by well-known sponsors, TUM was able to steadfastly expand its position within the global competition. Creative freedom in science ranks very high at TUM.
